9 • 29 • 2014 BEA ARTHUR IS MY SPIRIT ANIMAL
w/ drag legend and writer Jackie Beat
Dennis visits Jackie Beat and his three adorable and vocal dogs in Jackie's L.A. home, which features an entire room dedicated to the movie Carrie. This year is Jackie's 25th year in show business so there are lots of topics to dicsuss, including the first time he performed in drag, working on projects like Flawless (with Philip Seymour Hoffman), Fashion Police (with the late Joan Rivers) and Hello, Ross (with Ross Matthews) and the ecstacy of taking off your tight shoes after a long night of entertaining the masses. They also get into how RuPaul's Drag Race has changed the drag world, what it was like to grow up in Arizona and why the movie "Carrie" deserves its own room.
9 • 22 • 2014 DAX: MIXED MESSAGES
a Dennis Anyone? Extra with actor and Space Station 76 filmmaker Jack Plotnick
After interviewing Jack about his new film Space Station 76, Dennis and Jack recorded this extra episode where Jack responds to the question, "What message was left on your voicemail or answering machine that you played over and over?" by actually PLAYING a bunch of old messages for us and narrating. Dennis shares a couple messages, too. The episode ends with a recording from 1998 of Jack as a pre-Girls Will Be Girls Evie Harris singing "Evie," a parody of the song "Roxie" from Chicago while Dennis clunks away on piano. The recording was for a performance for Dennis's book launch for Misadventures in the (213) in which Evie played the role of the landlady in the book. Hence, all the references to rent checks, etc. (The accompanying photo was from the Quest for the Crown benefit in 2000. Dennis wrote, Evie commentated and Kristen Johnston was one of the judges.)
9 • 18 • 2014 I WANT TO SWIM IN LIVE TYLER'S FACE
w/ actor and Space Station 76 filmmaker Jack Plotnick
Dennis visits his old friend, filmmaker and actor Jack Plotnick on the eve of the release of his sci-fi dramedy Space Station 76, starring Patrick Wilson, Liv Tyler, Matt Bomer, Jerry O'Connell and Marisa Coughlan. Jack talks about the inspiration for the film, its long, winding road to fruition and what's it like to watch Matt Bomer pleasure himself with a robot hand. Also discussed are Jack's bound-for-Broadway jukebox musical "Disaster!" (co-created with Seth Rudetsky), what it was like to be part of "Ellen's" game-changing Coming Out episode, putting Sir Ian McKellan to sleep on the set of "Gods and Monsters" and the early days of his illustrious "Girls Will Be Girls" character Evie Harris. (FYI, the photo of us was taken at our friends Guy and Nir's Malibu wedding in the fall of 2013. I'm in the Mad Men suit I talked about in the podcast "So This Is What Striking Looks Like.") More Jack Plotnick fun to come in an Extra episode. Stay tuned.
